On my mind

Whats on my mind this week is exercise
or rather the need for some new exercise equiment

These are my very comfortable but rather well worn
runners/trainers/sneakers

They have walked many miles here and overseas
now I feel it is time to trade them in

So I am looking at new ones
BUT
Have you seen the price of them recently?!

One of my daughters is a runner/walker - actually in training at the moment for the Melbourne Oxfam Trailwalker event  - a fundraiser where teams have to cover 100km in 48 hrs, this is not her first time and I have to say I admire her for doing it each year - anyway she has goodness knows how many pairs of runners.  I'm sure she told me each pair plays a certain role - she has some that are for use on bush and forest trails as well as those for general running - pays what to me seems like the earth for them and actually keeps a check on the mileage that they do - seems there is a recommended lifetime for all of them so when they get close to that time out comes another pair.

Now thats alright if you can afford it I suppose but what options are there for the general public

Do you take the time and trouble of visiting a specialist shoe store where they will measure your foot and talk about what you doing  - bit  like going to a hairdresser for the first time or do you visit a large department store where you can try and buy much more cheaply and hope they are comfortable?

'They' say that to lose weight and tone your body you need to eat a blanced diet and do more exercise.  This new fitness whatever that I'm on means I'm doing a lot more walking, going to the gym and taking more classes at the leisure centre

My latest love is Zumba - as well as Body Pump, it has to be the best class on offer

So I need to go shopping soon for new shoes to keep my feet moving in the style they deserve

Not sure if this fits the bill of being something 'at home' but if I'm not healthy it makes things 'at home' a great deal more difficult for us all lol

Do visit Rhonda and see what others have

  1. I love my Rockport Walking shoes. ;) No problem for me to go into their outlet store and find the exact size I need. My Honey wears the men's version, too.

  2. This is true...I have duct taped a pair of shoes to the pedals on my exercise bike. I kept having to search for an appropriate pair to put on when I rode, so with a spare pair taped there I need not despair. (How is that for a rhyme?)

  3. I know, isn't it insane how much a nice pair of running/walking shoes cost? I currently own a knock off pair of those Step-Up things that are supposed to enhance every step you take because of the rocking shape of the heel. I would love to go to one of those places that form fit shoes to your size since my feet are so hard to fit. But I can never allow myself to part with the added expense.

My husband is a runner too. He does the Hood-2-Coast every year here, which sounds a little smaller that what your daughter does but a big deal all the same. And last year and this year Puddin' has joined him in the running.

I on the other hand greatly dislike running. I do love to walk out in nature but find that my self discipline is what lacks to have me be consistent.

    Blessings to you today Cathy.

  5. Yes sneakers can be expensive. I recently bought good quality runners from amart allsports when they were on sale. And I love them...they support my feet much better then an cheap sneakers do.
And will probably last alot longer too.

  6. I never used to go to a specialist shoe stor, but after I worked at curves I would get home and not be able to walk my feet and legs hurt so much. So I bit the bulliet and got me a pair fitted for my and nearly choked on the price. But I tell you it made a world of difference and they have lasted me two and half years. Only now I feel I may need to replace them. So I am gonna save and get another pair from the same shop.
    Well worth it

  7. I have never bought walking or running shoes, I just walk in my normal shoes. Have you looked online or is there a place that gives discounts? If you've looked at all the options you might just have to step up and buy. The thing is, if you love walking, it's an investment.

  8. hmmnnn, at least you can be proud that you have actually exercised enough to actually wear out your exercise shoes. ;)

  9. I have a pair of those 'tone as you walk' shoes (I did buy a less expensive brand - Avia (or something like that). They are very comfortable for walking in (at least for me!) I hope to be able to get back outside soon to do some walking. I know I've added some pounds to my body over the winter!

congrats to you for doing Zumba!

  10. On the rare occassions I walk for excerise I wear my trusty old sneakers. No fancy stuff here but I admit to a slight bit of envy of those fabulous new shoes and wonder if they would encourge me somewhat. Who am I kidding..vbg.

  11. I have turned in ankles so I walk, not run, and I need a shoe that supports the inside of my foot. The shoe shops either had astronomical prices or unsuitable shoes so I went to the sports store. The shop owner asked me a few questions and after I'd tried on other shoes he then suggested an Asics netball shoe. Perfect!
They are sooo comfy, cost $150 and they are leather so I expect to have them for a while :).

  12. I developed plantar fascitis and fallen arches from beginning treadmill walking program in cheap shoes. I now have expensive fitted shoes that cured the plantar fasciitis but I will always have the fallen arches. Take care of your feet no matter the cost! I envy anyone who can run or walk more than a quarter mile pain free.
